I’m Iulla (not my real name, hah!), a 22 year old Etrusco-Roman Reconstructionist and devotee of Sol. I’m also an animist, and somewhat of a hearth-witch.
I’m currently in college and am majoring in Classical Civilization and Latin – so I have ample opportunity to study ancient cultures.
I came to Roman Reconstructionism relatively recently, and believe me when I tell you that the story of how I came to the path is extremely average. I grew up in a family that is Roman Catholic, but from the age of about 10 on we rarely went to church – maybe a few times each year, and that was including the Christmas Eve masses.
Anyway, I just never really felt like Christianity was calling to me. There are just so many things that I don’t agree with or like about the faith that I just never liked it. I spent some time as an atheist and then as an agnostic theist – I know, that’s kind of a leap but I had my personal reasons.
One day, I just decided to see if there were any other religions out there that were close to my beliefs. I differ from a lot of people in that I never had any contact with Wicca – though I understand it can be a good starting point for some people. I briefly flitted around with Hellenismos (Greek Reconstructionism), but decided that that wasn’t my cup of tea. Same with Asatru. Then I found out about Roman Reconstructionism, and it all slid into place.
